So we left off in April...
April 13th, 2014 my daughter Lily and I completed our Diva's 5k race in Galveston. She was super excited about it and I tried to make the whole experience as enjoyable as possible so she would want to keep running.
We arrived in Galveston on Friday and hung out around the house that evening. We did go for a short run on the Seawall just to keep ourselves prepared. Saturday we went to the convention center to pick up our bib numbers, shirts, etc and they had this table/booth where you could decorate your bib with glitter and other "bling."

Above is my bib with the glittered numbers and the little gems she stuck on it. I have framed all our bib numbers and medals in these shadow boxes I got at a craft store and they are hanging in our bedrooms. | Nearby this table they also had this set-up where you could take a photo with props like tiaras and feather boas. |
Sunday morning we both woke up very early so we would have time to grab a small bite and I could drink my coffee. Plus we wanted to make sure we got to the starting line on time with our entourage; my oldest daughter, my husband, and my mother-in-law were there to cheer us on.
We made our way downtown to The Strand and found the starting/finishing areas so they would know where to go. After a last minute trip to the restroom and it was time to get started.

Even though we had discussed numerous times the effects of starting out way to fast because you are super excited about the "race" aspect of the event, Lily still started out waaay too fast. I was pretty sure it was going to happen, but since we had discussed it soooo many times I had hope. Oh well we still kicked ass. :)
We managed to finish is just over 41 min and I think for her 1st 5k that is pretty AWESOME! All along the way other women commented, waved or just looked at her in awe as we passed them. Lily loved passing the other runners and would get competitive when someone we had passed managed to pass us by later in the race. We took 2 walking breaks and a short stop for a drink of water.
All in all I still think she is pretty damn spectacular and I am very, very proud to have her running by my side.
