I stopped by Menchie's Tuesday night with Alex to get some much needed frozen yogurt. It always makes my stomach ache and my teeth are so sensitive since the surgery, but I'm a glutton for punishment I suppose.
When I was paying for our treats the super, extra, overly bubbly teenage girl at the register asked us if we wanted any stickers. At first I just looked at her funny and thought I must have misunderstood her, but nope she said it again and then pointed to the choices. I saw this little gem on the counter and just had to have it. Actually I took 2...she totally said I could ;)
This is going to be my theme for 2014. I even went so far as to stick it to my Mac! I'm living on the edge here people LOL!
I went running last night, before the FroYo, on a completely new path. I was supposed to meet up with the running team I joined, but I was so late getting there that I missed the start time. Stupid TRAFFIC!

I had attended a little gathering last week Thursday and met a few of the people. Everyone was so nice and easy going I couldn't help but feel right at home. So I joined on the spot. Membership to the club is free so it wasn't exactly a tough decision. I did have to fork over some cash if I wanted to get the official BON Racing Team singlet, shirt, shorts and hat, but it wasn't too expensive.
Actually given how expensive running clothes can be it was quite a steal for the whole package.
The team does shorter group runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and long runs on Saturday mornings, but are very flexible. I was assured that if I couldn't make it it would be no big deal.
Turns out I couldn't make it last Saturday to the long run so I was happy for the promised flexibility. (Plus I'm not so sure I'm ready for a long run yet....YIKES!)
Fast forward to yesterday, Tuesday, and I made every effort to make it on time, but the F!*&ING traffic had other ideas. I was fully aware that they leave promptly at 6:30 and I probably should've left earlier, but just didn't work out that way. So I made the best of it and went for the run by myself. The trail I was told to follow it almost exactly 3.1 miles so it was a perfect opportunity for me to do another test run.
38:27!!!!!! I am on FIRE!!!!
I think part of it is because of the other people around and the desire not to look like a slow poke or like I didn't belong. And the other part was definitely my desire to get it done, find Francois the head coach and get the heck out of there.
See here's the interesting thing I discovered that I didn't get the night of the meeting I attended. There are two different groups within the one club; the racing team and everyone else. The club itself has hundreds of members who run casually and then hang out afterwards, but the racing team is like 25-30 people I think. I hadn't realized this when talking to the people on Thursday night. The nice guy at the sign-in table, Tino (he loaned me his flashlight for my run :), kinda looked at me funny when I mentioned Francois and the team members and inquired if I was on the racing team, then informed me that they are really fast.

Let me just say - I am in NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM fast enough to be on a racing team. I needed to find Francois and clear this up, pronto!
After the run I was standing near the sign-in area doing some stretching and walking around to further cool myself down before hopping in the car to pick up Alex from tumbling class when the racing team's head coach and I ran into each other. He said hi, thanked me for showing up and asked how my run went. I answered all his questions and then explained my confusion, apologized and started to make my exit, but then he explained that I was exactly what they were looking for. He listed his reasons and I made several jokes about him just wanting someone slow on the team so the crowds could actually have a chance to read the words printed on the shirts. He laughed and reassured me I would get faster with practice.
In the end I stayed on the team. I like the idea of having a core group of people to train with and the idea that I will get lots of help from more experienced runners. I also really like the idea of telling people I'm on a racing team.
They don't need to know that I'm not fast...yet...
Got to run...
P.S. can you tell yet that I love using ... :)
Do you like to run alone or with a group? Why? Would you ever consider being on a racing team? Why or why not? Are you already on a team? What's it like? Any tips?
